Date: 14-07-2012 Jaya writes letter to Prime Minister to increase the allotment of HAJJ Yatra devotees for 2012 YATRA to Mecca. Earlier 12,100 of them were applied for yatra in Tamil Nadu. But only 2,863 persons got an opportunity to HAJJ. Remaining 9,243 persons will disappointment and vex. Also 1,146 devotees were directly got an opportunity by applying more than three time. On common quota, only 1,717 persons were selected for this travel to spiritual place. This is disgusting because this number is less than last year of 3,049. According to HAJJ Commity rules, the count must be 4,084 in this year. So Prime Minister should take required steps urgently and give opportunity to remaining.

Tiruvallur (TN), Sep 15 (PTI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today insisted that the sops given away at no cost by her government were aimed at uplifting the poor and the oppressed, but that some persons were trying to malign the effort as freebies. In her address here at the launch of the Special initiatives of her government such as providing laptops to students, and milch cows and goats, all at no cost, she said that these were intended at uplifting the respective beneficiaries, most of them "poorest of the poor". "Milch cows scheme, for instance, envisages benefiting 60,000 persons in five years. Jersey cross-breed cows are provided to beneficiaries which will yield good quantity of milk.
